Meeting Nontraditional Needs
500 adults are currently earning bachelor’s degrees part time through the University of Pennsylvania. In an effort to better serve nontraditional students, the school will be making history by offering the first online bachelor’s degree at an Ivy League college beginning in fall of 2019. The University is expecting to enroll thousands of students through this program.

Succeeding without College
55% of Americans who feel that attending college isn’t necessary to get ahead in life, according to a new survey of 1,000 adults by WGBH News. The data holds true even for those who graduated with a degree — nearly three-quarters of college grads feel college is worth attending, but 52% feel it is not necessary to get ahead in life.

Diversity’s Effect on Retention
2,541 students were included in a study on success in STEM Ph.D. programs. The study found that having female peers can increase a woman’s odds of completing the program in the natural sciences, engineering, technology or math. The study examines how women who study in male-dominated fields, like physics, are affected by the climate.

Changing Student Demographics
According to NPR, today’s college students don’t look like the college “kids” of yesteryear. 20% of college students are at least 30 years old. As the demographics of “traditional” college students shift, should policy shift as well?
