In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting Liaison employees who identify as women whose contributions have been integral to our success.

Ujjaini Sahasrabudhe, Director, Member Experience, holds a Master of Arts degree in Social and Multicultural Foundations of Education and a Master of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Before joining Liaison in 2018, she worked as the University of Southern California’s Office of Graduate Admission Director.

What drew you to the technology industry in the first place?

Ujjaini Sahasrabudhe (US): I love that my job in technology is still higher education adjacent. It allows me to combine the best of both worlds because I can apply my knowledge of higher education administration to help clients use our technology to create efficient workflows.

What’s one of the greatest challenges you’ve faced as a person who identifies as a woman in the workplace?

US: I often feel like this is compounded by the fact that I am a woman of color who was not born and raised in the US. Over the years I have learned the hard way that you definitely have to advocate for yourself in order to earn a seat at the table.

What is the most impactful professional lesson you’ve learned since you began your career?

US: Mentors matter. Networks matter. A majority of the jobs I have ever held were obtained with the help of mentors and networks.

Where do you see yourself professionally in 10 years?

US: Ha! Starting a second career teaching others how to garden or doing something related to food justice perhaps.

When you’re faced with a tough professional challenge, who/what/where do you look for guidance?

US: I have been very fortunate to have good mentors throughout my professional life. Same goes for having really awesome and supportive coworkers, always. And I am grateful that my husband is my biggest advocate and such a good sounding board. Having a solid support system and cheerleaders in your life is so crucial.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

US: Don’t demure… speak up for yourself. No one else will speak up for you unless you learn to speak up and stand up for yourself.

What has been your biggest career and/or personal achievement?

US: I left my whole life behind in my early 20s when I moved to the US with two suitcases after getting married. Not an unusual story I know, and lots of folks have made this journey in far more tenacious circumstances. However, I am extremely proud of my professional life because I feel like I have come a long way from my first job in the US (teaching at an after-school program part-time) nearly two decades ago.

Who are your favorite women in history, women who inspire/empower you?

US: Man, too many to name!! Women, especially those who break gender, race or any other norms to take a stand and be leaders, but never forget to treat others with kindness.
